- Inflammaging as a major characteristic of old peop...[Nutr Rev. 2007] - PubMed Result: Widespread aging at the population level is a recent phenomenon that emerged in affluent societies. Inflammation is necessary to cope with damaging agents and is crucial for survival, particularly to cope with acute inflammation during our reproductive years. But chronic exposure to a variety of antigens, especially to some viruses such as cytomegaloviru s, for a period much longer than that predicted by evolution, induces a chronic low-grade inflammatory status that contributes to age-associated morbidity and mortality. This condition carries the proposed name "inflamma ging". Centenarians are unique in that, despite high levels of pro-inflammato ry markers, they also exhibit anti-inflammat ory markers that may delay disease onset. The key to successful aging and longevity is to decrease chronic inflammation without compromising an acute response when exposed to pathogens.

- Alzheimer's Symptoms Reversed With Stem Cells: injections under the skin of GCSF mobilized blood stem cells in the bone marrow and neural stem cells within the brain and both of these actions led to improved memory and learning behavior in the AD mice. AD mice tx c GCSF demonstrated improved memory. the size and extent of beta amyloid deposited in the brains of the AD mice was significantly less in those treated with GCSF. mice treated with GCSF had a 36-42% reduction in beta amyloid. GCSF reduced the burden of beta amyloid deposited in the brains of the AD mice by several means. (1) recruiting reinforcements to clear beta amyloid accumulating abnormally in the brain. The growth factor prodded bone-marrow derived microglia outside the brain to join forces with the brain's already-activa ted microglia in eliminating the AD protein from the brain. Microglia are brain cells that act as the central nervous system's main immune defense. (2) The growth factor also appeared to increase the production of new neurons in the hippocampus
